Life has a way of shifting beneath our feet. Whether you are navigating a sudden career shift, a relationship transition, or a quiet internal struggle, we all face moments where our foundation feels incredibly unstable.
If you are currently walking through a season of uncertainty, you are not alone.
In this week’s message, Reverend Arjun Robinson dives into the Old Testament book of Habakkuk to show us exactly how to navigate life’s tremors. If you are ready to trade your anxiety for a steadfast trust in God, join us as we unpack what it means to have faith when everything around you is shaking.
Watch the Sermon: Having Faith During a Shake Season
/
Key Scripture: Habakkuk 2:1-4 (NIV)
“I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.
Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
‘See, the enemy is puffed up; his desires are not upright—but the righteous person will live by their faithfulness.’”
3 Keys to Having Faith in a Shaky Season
When the prophet Habakkuk looked around, his world was in chaos. He had questions for God, and he was desperately waiting for answers. From Habakkuk’s journey, Rev. Arjun Robinson shares three powerful posture shifts we must make when our own lives feel shaky.
1. Change Your Position
When life gets chaotic, our natural instinct is to panic, withdraw, or try to fix everything in our own strength. But Habakkuk did something different: “I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts.”
To hear from God, you have to position yourself to listen. This means moving away from the noise of the world, stepping out of the chaos, and positioning yourself in prayer, worship, and scripture. If you want to change your perspective, you must first change where you are standing.
2. Change Your Perception
Habakkuk climbed the watchtower not just to complain, but to look and see what God would say to him. Often, we fail to see God working because we are looking at our circumstances through the lens of fear instead of faith.
A shaky season is an invitation to shift your focus from the size of your problem to the scale of your God. When you change your perception and view your trials through the lens of God’s sovereignty, you realize that what looks like shaking might actually be God breaking down old structures to build something new.
3. Change Your Pace
One of the hardest parts of faith is waiting. God told Habakkuk, “Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come.”
Our modern culture demands instant results, but God often works in seasons and cycles. Having faith during a shaky season requires us to slow down and match God’s pace. Trusting God’s timing means believing that a delay is not a denial. When we change our pace, we find the strength to endure the middle of the story, knowing that God’s promises will not prove false.
Reflection & Discussion Questions
Use these questions for personal reflection this week or to discuss with your small group:
- Which of the three shifts (position, perception, or pace) do you struggle with the most when life gets shaky?
- What are the “ramparts” or quiet places in your life where you can go to hear from God?
- Is there a promise from God you are currently waiting on? How can you practice “living by faith” while you wait?
